Everton took a big step closer to Manchester United on Saturday with a stomping win over West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park.They racked up a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Kevin Mirallas, Morgan Schneiderlin and, as you’d expect, from Romelu Lukaku.It was a great day for supporters who saw their side pick up a fifth successive win at home and go a long way to securing European football next season. Depending on who wins the FA Cup, their current position of 7th in the Premier League table could be enough to compete in the UEFA Europa League next term.Given West Brom were just 4 points behind them before kick-off, it was a vital win against their closest rivals to that 7th spot.Central to the Toffees success this season has been Lukaku and although his goal was just the cherry on the top of today’s win, he’s scored a number of vital efforts across the campaign.As this stat from Opta shows, the Belgian striker is in fact having the best season of his career to date.
It’s a fantastic achievement, especially when you consider he has plenty of games left to go well beyond that total. With 10 goals in his last 10 matches, you’d fancy him to be on the scoresheet when Everton next play, at home to Hull City next Saturday.
