Arsenal have made a terrific start to life under Unai Emery and remain in the Premier League title race.
The Spaniard was tasked with replacing Arsene Wenger in the summer and stepping into the Frenchman’s shoes was always going to be difficult. However, the Arsenal squad have quickly adapted to the former Sevilla boss’ methods – the Gunners have made a blistering start to the season. Arsenal are eight points behind league leaders Manchester City and just six points behind second place Liverpool in the Premier League.
The January transfer window is now less than two months away, and Emery will once again have the chance to bolster his ranks. Arsenal’s summer signings have already had a positive impact at the club, and the Emirates faithful will hope Emery and the recruitment staff can work their magic again in the New Year.
One man who should be of interest is Nice sensation – Malang Sarr. Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, the youngster is widely considered one of the brightest talents emerging from France and is tipped to be the future of the France defence. With Laurent Koscielny approaching the twilight of his playing career, Sarr would be the perfect long-term replacement for his fellow countryman.
The 19-year-old joined the club at the age of six and made his senior debut for the side aged only 17. The defender has enjoyed plenty of first-team football this season, making ten appearances in Ligue 1. Sarr is inexperienced but remains a fine defender – averaging an incredible 2.5 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game so far this season. As well as his defensive qualities, the Frenchman also excels with the ball at his feet, completing 87% of his passes, making him ideal for Emery’s system in North London (WhoScored).
Being tutored by the likes of Koscielny at the Emirates could do wonders for his development – Arsenal must do all they can to bring him to the Premier League.
