Under Tony Pulis, Middlesbrough have put together a very impressive start to the season and currently sit second in the table.
As you’d expect from a Pulis side, Boro have only conceded eight goals this season. With Pulis at times deploying a three at the back formation, Middlesbrough have a new style of play this season and so far it’s paid off as they’ve only lost two games this season.
When January comes, however, Middlesbrough will need to dip into the transfer market and will need to add to the squad to maintain the gap between themselves and the chasing pack.
According to Italian news website, Calciomercato, the club is targeting a move for Swiss box-to-box midfielder Stephane Cueni.
The Breakdown
The 17-year-old midfielder’s current deal with Swiss side, Team Vaud, runs out at the end of this season and due to that, he has attracted from not just Middlesbrough but also Udinese, Parma and Torino.
Signing the midfielder ahead of the three Italian sides would be a huge statement from the club. Given his age, Cueni would definitely be a player for the future and one that will likely not come into the team until next season at the earliest.
As it stands, Middlesbrough have a lot of depth in midfield in Clayton, McNair, Besic and Saville to name just a few but by adding a youngster who will eventually play in the side, Pulis could be adding another quality player to the foundations of his side.
Middlesbrough fans, what do you think?
