Tottenham Hotspur fans are already gearing up for the summer transfer window, even despite the fact that the current campaign doesn’t look like finishing anytime soon.
And it’s no surprise really given the situation the north London outfit find themselves in – seven points outside of top-four contention in the Premier League; no cup competitions to play for.
Alasdair Gold from Football.London posed potential left-backs that the club could target at the end of the season, which included Benfica hotshot Alex Grimaldo, and in response, Portuguese outlet A Bola ran a piece outlining that the 24-year-old has a €60m (£55m) release clause.
Loads of Lilywhite supporters would love to see the Spaniard, who is yet to be capped by the senior side, make the switch to the English top-flight.
Here’s what has been said…
Many were huge fans of the left-back, describing him as “class” and “quality” while some just were desperate to see it happen as the role should be their number one priority.
Per WhoScored, Grimaldo is averaging two tackles, 1.4 clearances and 1.1 interceptions per game across both domestic and European competitions whilst his attacking exploits have to also be noted as he’s contributing further up the field too, managing 2.2 key passes, 1.4 dribbles and even 1.3 shots a match.

Well, that’s certainly what a few supporters in north London believe as seen below.
Danny Rose appears set to depart the club following his loan spell at Newcastle United as well, so the Portuguese boss is very much in need of filling that void.
Of all the aforementioned figures, the only facet that Spurs’ Welshman beats the potential transfer target in is clearances, where he is averaging at least 2.1 per game in all competitions.

Another name mentioned in Gold’s article is Leicester City ace Ben Chilwell and fans certainly wouldn’t like to see him make the switch south despite helping the Foxes to their much healthier position of third place.
